Globally, Generics are the off-Patented drugs while Patented Drugs are the Branded drugs. However, in Indian context, the marketing strategy adopted for placement of a Company’s products, make the products Branded or Generic.

The Branded drugs in India are factually the Branded Generic i.e. the formulations which are off patent but promoted by companies through doctor prescriptions, while the Generic drugs are also similar compositions but marketed through a different channel of stockists and retailers to customers.
